Museo de la Energia

2006
Atzcapotzalco Mexico,

El museo de la Energía y Parque Recreacional is a proposal for the 80 hectare site of what once was the Petroleum Refinery of Atzcapotzalco. It is located within Mexico City, northwest of its city center.

The master plan includes revitalization and programming for over 60% impermeable concrete slabs, reminiscent of the old infrastructure. Only the old power plant building remains standing.

Design decisions, and drivers for this project include utilizing the Old Plant as a focal point for the new Museum, combine it with an open plaza with parking underneath, and connecting them by foot paths to heavily transited public transportation hubs. The final architectural and landscaping proposal features, a Floating Volume as central point and an allegory for new beginning without fossil fuels.
